Leisurely boat trips can be taken to surrounding quaint villages of Bellagio, Varenna, and Tremezzo, majestic villas and gardens made famous by Hollywood film industry and celebrities alike. In the 2006 version of Casino Royale, Lake Como was the location for Bond's recuperation and the blooming of his love interest.

Como and the surrounding areas are famous for textile industry, particularly woolen cloth and silk.

Weather

October is one of the best months to visit the area as it generally mild. It can rain, and evenings can be chilly so come prepared. Pack comfortable shoes and clothes that can be layered, remember that lightweight raincoat and sweater.

Getting There and Getting Around

By Train

Trains depart frequently from Milan's Stazione Centrale to Como's train station San Giovanna, takes about 60 minutes.

By Plane

Milano Malpensa International Airport is the closest airport for Como, take the airport shuttle bus to Milan then take a train from Milan to Como or hire a car.

By Car

Traveling form Malpensa International Airport exit onto the A336 to the A8, take the Milan direction then turn off on the A9 to Como and Switzerland. Be prepared for road tolls - have change at the ready.

At Como

Como has a comprehensive public transport service including, buses, train and ferries. Surrounding towns and villages are easily accessed.

Things to do

When you are not spending time with the master craftsman take some time to enjoy the sights of Como or why not take a few extra days to soak up the ambience of Como and perhaps;

  • Roam the ancient streets, do some serious shopping, hike up the local hills and relax in one of the many cafes and enjoy that authentic expresso or cappuccino or dine in a traditional Italian restaurant and enjoy local wines and produce.
  • Visit the picturesque lake side villages of Tremezzo and Varenna
  • Take a panoramic cruise to the delightful historic township of Belliago enjoy the many cafes and boutiques nestled along the narrow cobbled streets.
  • Venture on a day trip to Milan and experience the shopping of your dreams or if shopping is not for you explore the many beautiful gardens and historic architecture, including the Gothic Duomo Cathedral, the museum of Cenacolo Vinciano, Porta Venezia Gardens

Eating Out

There are many choice to sample the northern Italian cuisine specialties of the area includes Polenta, goats milk cheese (Caprini) salami , mushrooms and fresh fish from the lake
